Players must travel to small or large harbors to get a tugboat in Rust. That's because, unfortunately, this marine vessel can't be bought from boat vendors. Also, speed is the name of the game when claiming tugboats because only a few of them will spawn per map.

To get your hands on one of these beauties, head to the small or large harbours where up to two tugboats will spawn, with a maximum of four per server. Their limited availability can significantly impact the outcome of a wipe, so if you plan to live on the high seas secure yours quickly!

Typical tugs can exert up to 110 tons of pulling and pushing force with incredible precision, especially when combined with a powerful winch. But in today's article, we're diving into what specifically makes tugboats a necessary part of every port and container ship operation.

Steam tugs were put to use in every harbour of the world towing and ship berthing. Tugboat diesel engines typically produce 500 to 2,500 kW (~ 680 to 3,400 hp), but larger boats (used in deep waters) can have power ratings up to 20,000 kW (~ 27,200 hp).

Since the word “tug” means “to pull,” a lot of people are under the false impression that pulling is all tugboats can do. The truth is that a tugboat can be designed to either push or pull depending on the waterborne task at hand. To pull a vessel, they attach a tow line.

Most tugboats can also venture into the ocean, but some do not have that propulsion power, like river tugs. River tugs are towboats designed to help out in rivers and canals. Their varied hull types make it dangerous for them to venture into the open ocean.
