Who has the best tours to Italy? ›

Book your trip a minimum of six months in advance.

Six months ahead of time is the minimum length of time you should give yourself to secure your spot on a group trip. For example, a May 2024 trip should be secured at the latest by the end of December 2023. (This would make a great gift for the holidays!)

As a general rule, if you are traveling between cities and major towns then the best way to travel around Italy is by train. If you want to explore the countryside and small villages you will need to rent a car. When you are mapping out distances to travel between destinations use Google maps or Rome2Rio.

Although there is enough to do in Italy to fill a week, we recommend a stay of at least 10 days in Italy for the complete experience. However, if you've only got two or three days in Italy, you will still be able to cover many of the main highlights of the country.

It is from April to June that you can expect mild weather across the country and fewer crowds than in later months—making it ideal for both the city, where congestion and heat can be deterrents, and the coast, though warmer weather may have you considering a later visit.

Flying on a weekend is pricier… and, really, there's often little reason for weekend travel.

Avoid bright colors and opt for more neutral or muted tones. Italians generally dress up a bit more than casual tourists, so bring some stylish outfits. Comfortable shoes are a must for exploring, but leave the flip-flops for the beach.
